Restorative Movement
The mornings at our retreats always start with restorative, mindful movement. Welcome to the place where functional fitness meets nervous system resilience. This aspect of our retreat is dedicated to integrating the intelligence of the mind with the wisdom of the body. In some instances, it is a humbling or a surrender of the mind – especially the thoughts to the body. The body is ancient and knows the way much better than the mind. We use this time together to go on a deep inward journey to learn and listen to what the body wishes to teach us.
One of our facilitators, Dr. Sierra Sugrue, is a certified yoga instructor as well as an energy healer. While she practices restorative yoga, breathwork, yin yoga, and somatic movement, her approach is a very unique one in comparison to other practitioners. Rather than sticking to a specific, formulaic sequence, her movement-based meditation is highly attuned to each individual that is in the room. The movements and positions are therapeutic to each person.
Restorative movement is a moving meditation to come back to the heart.
Benefits of Infrared Sauna + Our Waterfall Cold Plunge:
~ The Power and Medicine of Outdoor Cold Therapy ~
Here at our Aloha Falls Retreat Center, we have both an infrared sauna and access to a refreshing nature-based cold plunge in a waterfall pool.
Did you know that both extreme heat and extreme cold have incredibly healing and medicinal effects on the body?
An INFRARED SAUNA can help boost heart health and reduce blood pressure. It improves blood circulation, reduces inflammation, soothes sore muscles, and can assist with treating pain. It also releases endorphins in the body and can help alleviate low moods, anxiety, and stress, as well as improve sleep. Spending time in the sauna can reduce oxidative stress in the body, which can help increase the body's resistance to viruses and disease.
Regular sauna use enhances immune function by increasing white blood cell production and stimulating the body's natural defense mechanisms. It is also a catalyst for the body to detox, allowing us to flush out impurities from the skin and remove toxins and heavy metals from the body.
COLD PLUNGES have a large variety of benefits. Cold plunges in natural waters naturally produce negative ions, which improves mood and reduces stress. They are nature’s cure. Natural cold water immersion constricts blood vessels, which can help to lower inflammation. It also helps with muscle recovery and alleviating soreness, increased metabolism, boosting and stimulating the immune system, and improving mood. A spring-fed cold plunge can reduce stress/anxiety/depression, enhance mental clarity/focus, detoxify your body, improve sleep, reduce pain, increase energy levels, burn fat, rejuvenate the skin, and boost blood flow.
Experts believe cold plunges are the most effective when done immediately after being in a hot environment, such as a sauna or hot tub. This is known as contrast therapy. Perhaps one of the most powerful things about cold therapy is the element of resilience: When you tackle something as challenging as submerging yourself in ice-cold water, you train your mind and body to be able to face the difficult things in life with ease.
We invite you to take the leap into our cold plunge retreat, and we cannot wait to welcome you into our magical waterfall wellness experience.
